Project Outline:

Les Mills is one of the leaders in fitness equipment products with their BODYPUMP Group Fitness Classes and Equipment Bundle. Although a great product, there is still much room for improvement.

The goal of this project was to redesign the existing Les Mills equipment to improve the BODYPUMP experience.

User testing + Market Study

By attending BODYPUMP classes at the local Sportsplex, we were able to use the Les Mills system in context and interview users. In doing so, we discovered the product’s strengths, missed opportunities, and pain points.

1. Undesirable weight plate changeover & selection times
2. Strenuous equipment setup & breakdown process
3. Users find regularly sanitizing equipment important, yet a hassle
4. Additional Polar Fitness Watch app system and UX/UI not worth the value
5. Physical product doesn’t accommodate many various user preferences

Our class and I attended official LesMills BODYPUMP classes at the Opelika, AL Sportsplex to gain first-hand knowledge of the product.

Ideation

The Contenders

Allows users to add or divide weight quickly during a high-intensity and fast-paced workout.

Consolidates the majority of BODYPUMP workout equipment pieces for quick, easy transport before and after workout.

Cleans and sanitizes workout equipment via a sanitizer spray-delivery mechanism each time equipment is put away.

Each concept provides a unique and original solution to at least one of the key takeaways from my research. After presentations, critiques, and multiple rounds of voting - three of my concepts were selected to pursue further prototyping.

Form follows function.

After identifying the functional aspects of the concept, it was then time to refine the final aesthetic of the product.

Workout Equipment Sanitizing System

The final result is a modern, yet bold-looking design whose form follows its function. The powder-coated, stamped steel panels fasten firmly to a sturdy, central frame that’s able to hold (9x) weight bars (LesMills) or (36x) weight plates.

Simply constructed, intricately defined. The SaniRack keeps your workout equipment sanitized while looking as sculpted as you are.
